Why should I recycle my computers/electronics?
Some electronics contain hazardous chemicals like lead/mercury. For example, CRT monitors and TV contain about 40% lead in the tube. These dangerous chemicals need to go through a careful separation process. However, recent statistics show that only 12% of the electronics are properly recycled. That means millions of pounds of electronics are mixed with regular garbage and dumped into the landfill. It is not a surprise that some of those hazards already harm our water and soil. That's why there are more and more pediatric cancer. To prevent these horrible problems, we need to take further actions to impede contamination in the landfill. The best way to do it is to recycle your electronics.
What happens to these electronics?
End-of-life electronics need to go through a series of sorting and cancellation process. At our site, we do some basic sorting to make sure some electronics are not mixed with others. We then turned them into destruction facilities that we work with. They will conduct further sorting and dismantling. Some parts can be recovered or refurbished for reuse. Other non-working parts can be crushed into materials like metal and plastics. This is part of a refinery process. The important idea of recycling is to reuse the materials that are still usable.
Why should I recycle at TW Electronics Recycling?
Unlike other waste services, we do not charge our clients. If you call any waste management/handling services, they will charge you an arm and a leg to pick up 2 computers from you. We offer free pick up for business/organization, and incentives for those who drop off at our warehouse. Some waste management companies charge you and claim state money to increase their profits. By contrast, we do not aim to profit from our customers, we hope to focus on recycling first, profit second. We get compensation from the state of california and certified recyclers, and we have investors and endowment from environmental groups.
I have sensitive data in my hard drive, do you erase it?
Yes. We turn your hard drives into state-certified recycle facility that we work with to have them erase the hard drives. Most of the time, hard drives are crushed into pieces. We can guarantee you that your information will not be released with our recycling certificate. The certificate serves as the receipt of your transfer of liability to us. We will then be liable for any release of information. Of course, leaking sensitive information is not going to be possible because we do not want any trouble. TW Electronics Recycling will not risk our company's reputation by reusing your hard drives.
